Winnipeg 02:47
I think about it every day I guess that’s the price I’ll have to pay I’m going back to Bismarck I’m taking your sled dog team Across the ice and the plains Into the dark and the frozen rain So with you or without you with me I’m leaving here tonight Tonight I guess that nobody knows What you might find Out on the snow Four pools of red on white Until the thaw of the spring Been on this road Seven weeks now Running from men So close behind us now So with you Or without you with me I’m leaving here tonight Tonight I’m leaving here tonight Tonight Tonight Tonight

This Town 03:48
This town is gonna eat us alive This town is gonna wreck our life This town is gonna do us in This town is gonna rearrange our skin This town is just too dangerous It really isn’t safe for us Red ants under the porch are awake A volcano on Main Street A hurricane on the lake This town this town, we built it up It’s such a shame we have to tear it down We shouldn’t have to risk our lives And even though the weather’s so nice This town is gonna melt us down In time, without a sound This town this town, we built it up It’s such a shame we have to tear it down Cut the wires running through the trees Cut the wires and the town is free So let it go

I made a plan and I put it into motion I built a ship and then I built myself an ocean I said let’s go boys, let’s do it again Went to the docks With just the power of suggestion Consigned a crew and somehow Answered all their questions I said let’s go boys, let’s do it again With two by fours and plywood boards That were connected by a simple paste Cured in the sun, my box of sticks sailed true Oh this ship sailed so true Every night I close my eyes and dream of an Island in the sea underneath the bluest skies I built a ship and I sailed it on the ocean But then a sound came from the hull A great explosion, I said I’m sorry men But it looks like we’ll be going down fast Well I must concede boys I’m no engineer By trade, and I can’t be judged here Solely on the grave mistakes that I’ve made Oh and I’ve made a few Every night these men and I, we wash up on an Island in the sea underneath the bluest skies I made a plan and I put it into motion I sank my ship and then I emptied out the ocean But I say who’s with me boys should we Do it again? I say let’s go boys, let’s do it again

I can’t complain I was back up in a flash I still feel the same but since that laboratory crash I have the strength of 50 men Fighting for truth To avenge my old friend I feel the same But everything’s changed When I focus my brain I can throw a car I can lift a train from the track But I don’t need the fame Just help me find my lab To turn back from This strength of 50 men I saved the earth From an untimely end I feel the same But everything’s changed And I’ve changed, I’ve changed I’ve changed, I’ve changed I have the strength of 50 men Here shoot my heart I’ll just mend it again I still feel the same But everything’s changed Everything’s changed Everything’s changed Everything’s changed

Parking Lots 03:39
Parked cars in parking lots Parked cars in parking lots They don’t remember Their own names They’re rusting On their frames I’ve got nothing to say I’ve got nothing to say That hasn’t been Expressed before In a hundred different ways But I believe in you I’m going to go for a walk I’ve got some Breadcrumbs with me I’ll find my way back Just you wait and see Just you, just you Just you wait and see Just you, just you Just you wait and see Parked cars in parking lots Parked cars in parking lots We’re rusting On our frames

That heist today was one for the books Might be the best of all the jobs that we pulled Tonight you’ll go your way and I’ll go mine You’ll never see my face again That’s the bottom line I fell for the plan, the precision, the maps Then we found this car and keys and never Looked back; rolls of hundreds piled on the floor Behind the driver’s seat of somebody’s Ford Now let’s go down to the river where the fire road Is closed, it’s the last night of summer We can change out these clothes With dusk coming on fast, we’re losing the light So here take these papers For your red eye tonight I know you’ll go your way and I’ll go mine I’ll never see your face again To the end of the line Now let’s go down to the river Where the fire road is closed It’s the last night of summer We can take off these clothes We can swim in the river See the moon through the trees We’ll roll down our windows and Feel the summer wind against our skin Before you leave It’s the last night of summer

What if you threw a ball up into the air Instead of falling, it just stayed suspended there Would you drop everything Pick yourself up off the couch Alert the neighbors, or stay quiet as a mouse You went to work and came home Tired and rubbed your eyes Walked in, put down your keys Now the ball is burning bright And all around it floating Shoes, the couch, the pets In perfect orbit, around a thing that can’t exist People of Earth please don’t be afraid A new galaxy formed here In Texas late last night Before the shops turned on their lights What if you threw a ball up into the air Instead of falling, it just stayed suspended there And all around it floating Trees, the house, the hedge In perfect orbit around the thing that can’t exist People of Earth please listen to me A new galaxy born in Texas late last night Before the shops turned on their lights People of Earth please don’t be afraid A new galaxy formed here In Texas late last night Before the shops turned on their lights To both our horror and delight yeah yeah

I thought of The worst thing that Could happen to us I wrote it all down on paper Then I burned it up And I thought of The worst thing that Could happen to us I sealed it in a rocket Launched it out into space The moon is full Above the satellite dish And the stars are out The stars are out I want to Come and see you tonight Want to feel your arm Around me It’s been a long time We’ll be just fine Do you know your fear? Do you know your doubt? Because I know mine Cause I know mine Cause I know mine Cause I know mine
9.
Get to You 03:26
I’ve got to get to you but I don’t know how I’ve got 11 hours on the dash right now I’ve got to get to you, I’ve got to get to you I’ve got to drive all night across 3 states I’ll make it somehow and I won’t be late I’ve got to get to you With windows down around my ears Headlights reaching through the dark 70’s station radio, Even the Losers fills the car But you and me you know we will succeed We’ll find the lock and we’ll turn the key But you and me you know we will succeed We’ll find the lock and we’ll turn the key And neither knows just what we’ll find A place to sleep and a little piece of mind Don’t even know just what we’ll be together But together we’ll be I’ve got to get to you but I don’t know how I’ve got to make it there and I will somehow I’ve got to get to you, I’ve got to get to you I’ve got to drive all night across 3 states I’ll make it somehow and I won’t be late I’ve got to get to you You know I always was naive A seedling reaching for the light While everyone was so on edge Tapping itching for a fight But you and me you know we will succeed We’ll find the lock and we’ll turn the key You and me you know we will succeed We’ll find the lock, and we—we’ll turn the key

Meteor 03:03
You escaped from that train Just as it jumped the rails, said “My luck’s back again!” Fell off of a cliff But on your way down You grabbed onto a stick You’ve got to get home, change your shirt Wash your face, shake out your shoes And your friends will raise Their glass to you cause Everything is gonna be alright tonight Just grab your keys It’s gonna be alright tonight When your boat went down You swam right past the sharks And got back to town And still your heart pumps And there’s still air right there in your lungs So now you know, you heard it here first Everything is gonna be alright tonight Just wait and see It’s gonna be alright tonight And everything is gonna be alright tonight Just stick with me It’s gonna be alright tonight 60 million years ago the Earth was fried When a meteor struck & the dinosaurs all died But everything will be alright tonight Everything is gonna be alright tonight Everything is gonna be alright tonight

The roof that night Held on through the gale But the capsized cars Out front had set sail And 20 miles west near the 40 fathom line A ship’s hull cracked And disappeared in the brine And the crew members too Sank one by one On the news they said A storm like we’ve never known But when the clouds all cleared up Somehow we still had a home We stepped outside And we tapped on the ground Tied our bootlaces up and then We walked toward town our feet on the road Tracing lines on the road The year it rained a thousand nights Down from the sky the lightning strikes We had to run for our lives We had to run to go get dry When I was 10 years old I once got lost in a cave But a tiny bar of light Helped me then to escape From the limestone smell Out to a blanket of stars Then from the road nearby Came the sound of the cars — The year it rained a thousand nights Down from the sky the lightning strikes We had run to save our lives We had to run to go get dry Centuries from now in the desert heat Two archeology interns working for free Under wide brimmed hats Sifting through layers of earth Might find a tiny bar of light For what it’s worth They might wonder why Did it come from a cave? Did it fall from the sky? Was this close to a town? Was there an ocean nearby? Was this somebody’s boot? Was he part of a crew? Is this a boat fragment here Or just a piece from a roof? Or what once was a car? Maybe we’re thinking too hard The year it rained a thousand nights Down through the clouds Came lightning strikes We held our breath And closed our eyes We held our breath And then watched the skies The year it rained a thousand nights Down from the sky the lightning strikes We’ve had to run all our lives We had to run til we got wise

about

Over the course of 11 songs, Monomials’ debut album explores evocative landscapes of hope, regret, and resolve with a cast of first-person characters stepping in and out of the shadows. Featuring strings, horns, mallet percussion, and imaginative production, it’s an arresting introduction to Richard Keith’s distinctive songwriting voice.
